The students had been waiting for their chance to take on the coaches. The coaches were just as ready for the ultimate showdown.
On Saturday 19 September 2026, more than 200 players, families and supporters came together at Springers Leisure Centre for Kingston’s Students vs Coaches Game Night.
Our U8 and U10 players welcomed the teams onto the court with a Guard of Honour. The crowd backed the students through both games, but the coaches came away with two wins.
The coaches won the games but the students got their payback.
Gold-coin donations unlocked a Chicken Dance, a wheelbarrow race and a sprint challenge. Coach Andre also took a pie in the face, giving the students a win of their own.
Founder and Head Coach Andre Solomons said the students had been looking forward to taking on the coaches, but the coaches weren’t going to make it easy.
“We won the games, but the kids definitely got their payback!”
Together, Kingston raised $6,846.75 to help make basketball more accessible for local families, grow our girls’ programs and U8 pathways.
“Seeing more than 200 people come together for our kids is what Kingston is all about,” Coach Andre said.
“This support will help us welcome more young players and give them a place to belong.”
A special thank you to Gold Sponsor Your Project Specialists (YPS) for its $3,000 contribution, and to every business that donated or supported the event.
Thank you to our players, coaches, volunteers, parent committee and families for making it a night to remember.
The coaches have the wins for now. Next year’s showdown is another story.
