Athlete Code of Conduct

8 Aug 2024

Kingston Basketball Academy (KBA) is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its members. The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to offer clear guidelines and opportunities for promoting positive behaviour.

KBA stands out because the athletes and coaches we welcome are great people. This is not a coincidence. We just want positive people around us, and we have a zero-tolerance regarding disrespect, violence, aggression or any form of harassment.

TIME

Be on time

  • Elite athletes should aim to be at least 15 minutes early for sessions

  • If you arrive late, approach a Coach, say sorry, and begin warming up on the sidelines until instructed to join the session

  • Elite athletes arriving 15 minutes after the session has started, may not be able to take part in the training

ATTENDANCE

Being part of KBA’s program demands significant dedication

  • Make sure to attend all training sessions

  • To be part of our teams, you must attend a minimum of one training session per week

  • Attendance is compulsory for all team games

  • If unable to attend your game due to illness, family emergency, or school commitments, inform your team manager and coach in advance to ensure smooth team operations

ALWAYS GIVE 100%

Put in maximum effort during sessions

  • Maintain a positive attitude and mindset

  • Be proactive and ready to take on any challenges that come your way during the training session

  • Approach sessions with the goal of enhancing your skills as a player by giving your all

  • Stay committed to your goals and keep pushing forward, even when the going gets tough

LISTEN TO YOUR COACHES

Soak up the wisdom your coaches dish out

  • When a COACH is speaking, you should be listening

  • Follow their instructions, work hard and ask questions if you need clarification

  • Don’t be disrespectful or defiant

  • Maintain a respectful tone when communicating with your coach and address any issues privately

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Be respectful of others

  • Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of all Academy athletes, teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, parents and spectators regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion

  • Display sportsmanship on the court, and demonstrate concern for the rights, safety, and welfare of others off the court

  • Do not engage in disrespectful behaviour or foul language

  • Never engage in any violent or aggressive behaviour that will threaten the health, safety or wellbeing of another athlete, player, parent, spectator, official and/or coach

  • There will be no harassment of any kind, which includes bullying, hazing and sexual harassment

KBA reserves the right to withdraw membership privileges from any athlete who consistently displays inappropriate behaviour or fails to meet the responsibilities outlined in this Code of Conduct.
